URGENT REQUEST!:
Now that we are over the holidays, This years is our 350th Anniversary of
the landing of the Swartwout family in North America. The name has many
variations such as Swarthout, Swartout, Swartwood, Swathwood, Swarthwood
etc. We need help in gather lines, pictures, articles, wills, what ever you
have stashed in your attic. We would really appreciated it if you shared
with us what you had, there a literally thousands of us here looking for
our roots, looking for connections. For our 350th Anniversary we need to
updated our list of folks out there that are descendants somewhere along the
line of any of those variations. We also have a family newsletter that cost
only $5.00 per year, a real bargain. Just send it your mailing address.
Every day I get e-mail asking me for help. Up here in Canada, there were two
brothers that had huge families, all the remains of their descendants are
the female sides. All the male went back to the States. I'm am the
maintainer of "The Updated Swartwout Chronicles" People submit their
lines-ged-coms etc. and I just drop them into the data base. It is
everyone's database. Each person is responsible for their own submissions.

As a descendant of Aaron and Eliza Dufford (Duffort) SARBER, I am researching
all collateral lines. The ten children of this union are: Amanda (1st
husband William McGOWAN) and second husband Thomas C. SMITH-my ancestor);
Clarrissa L. (Ensley L. GRAY), Ezra (Josephine Dawson), Thomas Sylvester
(Sedorus Dawley), William John (Samantha Shields), Henry Enos (Cynthia Ann
Shaw), Harvey A. (Ester Penn), Susan Margaret (Walter Wheeler), Eli C.
(Myrtle B. Nunn), and Arlie L. (John W. Lockwood).
Does anyone know the death dates or where the following are buried?
Clarrissa L. GRAY
Harvey A. and Ester Penn SARBER
Susan Margaret Sarber WHEELER (Her husband died in 1922)
Eli C. and Myrtle B. Nunn SARBER
John W. and Arlie L. Sarber LOCKWOOD.

I've noticed several references to NEWHOUSE. There were some in Rush Co, IN in the 1830s that married into the ZION family. They remained in Rush Co but some of the other ZIONs moved to Wells Co.
Thought this might be a lead for someone.

I have come to a dead end looking for anything about my father. He was born in Montpelier, Indiana 24 May 1913. He was in the Navy. As much as I know he said he came from a huge blended family (lots from both sides, a your-mine-ours group). I don't have any proof one way or the other about that. He had a brother named Lester that passed away I vaguely remember late in the 60's or early 70's. Lester was married to a woman named Vesta. Charles was married to a Frances (no maiden, it might have been Fautet) then divorced to marry Dorothy Tuttle in England. Charles passed on 7 July 1974. My older brother has a skin condition that the doctors say has only been found in Amer. Indian or French Canadian Ind. He is blond, blue eyed (like mom was) We would really like to figure out our past if possible.

We are in the same family and I believe we may have contacted each other before-once-but didn't follow up. The records that I have say John Newhouse married Emily Coon on Jan 1,1848 in Pickaway Co.,Ohio. I am ashamed to say that I haven't taken the time to send for the marriage license. They are listed in the 1850 census for Wells Co,In,Nottingham Twp.. I will try to get a copy of that. The only children that I have listed for John and Emily is Martha and Sarah. There could and probably are more children and this could be a second marriage too,for either or both of them.
Please reply to this message so I can keep your e-mail address and contact you if and when I can get more information. How are you related to John?

Well, I tried to help you out, but no luck. The Wells County index dosn't list a Morris Connett http://www.rootsweb.com/~inwells/cen/1860cens.txt
I looked on page 948-950 , 969, 943, 979 but no Morris. Also I tried to go by the #55 and #58 but no luck.
I looked in the Wells County Family History 1837-1992 and the only Connett mentioned was a Sarah married to a Joseph Derr in 1885.
Sorry,

I would be very interested in ANY information you have on ANY "Amos NUTE" in NH. There must be another Amos Nute who was born about 1850 and who lived in NH or Maine.
We are related to the Amos (born about 1803) who married Eliza, and lived in Carrol County, NH, in the July 1860 Cenus. It states this Amos and wife Eliza had 2 sons, John, age 21, laborer, and son Daniel D., age 19, laborer.
But it also appears we are related to ANOTHER Amos Nute who was 50 years younger and I am having a very tough time finding anything about him. I would appreciate ANY information you can share. Did the older Amos Nute have a son or grandson named Amos? cousin? Thanks for replying.

This is the second time I've seen reference to James having a brother, he doesn't show up in any of the information that I have from the New Hampshire Historical Society. I'll have to go back and find the first reference to see where it came from.
Since James was a first generation Nute in Dover,NH ,then Lucy and Daniel would have to (?) live in England. James (1) arrived in Portsmouth in1631 ,he was in his early 20's. That would make his birthdate about 1611.It seems unlikely that he would have a brother born in 1775. I did find a Betsy Harriman in the index of the Nute Family Records but she has been misnumbered so that means a slow tedious search to find her. Give me a while.

I may be reaching, but here goes.
Did James Nute have parents named Lucy & Daniel? Did this same James Nute, from NH, have a brother John? And did John, born in 1775, marry Betsy Harriman? I am very interested in the children's names of John and Betsy. I can only find one son, Amos, born 1795.
I am thankful for any information you can share.

Sherry,
My husband is the great, great, great grandson of Benjamin Merritt. Our Benjamin has a son named Andrew Jackson Merritt who had a son named Robert Lee Merritt. I have only this evening found the connection to Benjamin, I don't know if our Benjamins are the same people. My Benjamin was married to Mary or Martha Elizabeth Lingo. Do you recognize this as a connection to you?

I have just come received two "booklets" from Herrmann School, District No. 5, Nottingham Township, Wells County, Indiana. These are both headed "Souvenir", one is from the school year 1906 and the other is 1903-1904. They each have a photo on the front, I assume the teacher, a list of pupils, info on the school and a poem. Several of my relatives are listed and I am having difficultly finding info on Herrmann School, as I was under the impression that these family members attended Frog Pond School. Were these schools one and the same or did one replace the other? Any and all information would be appreciated. I'll be glad to share the names listed if anyone is interested. Thanks Connie Cherry
