Hi Cathy,
I sort of figured something like that was happening with the posts. I was
simply concerned that you weren't wasting your time with sending them to all
of us. You can do as you please with the data- if I don't want to read it
I'll simply delete it.
Glad to know you are still working dilligently on the site.
Thanks,

Dear Cathy,
I too am only speaking for myself, but I have no problem with all the obits
coming over to the Wells List. I am interested in this area in that it is on
"the back burner" for me.....the family of my daughter-in-law came from
there. So as I am not actively focused on it right now, I appreciate the
obits COMING to me when I am not actively searching. There was one person who
is a descendant of her ancestors in your list and I was pleased:)
Thank you for all of your hard work!

I'm trying to learn more about a small village
called Echo, Indiana that existed in 1906 and was located somewhere near
Ossian. I have an old newspaper article that says:
"Echo, a Wells County hamlet with a sawmill, tile
mill and general store, has died out."
Can anyone help me build some history about this
small village?
I know from the article about it's ball team the
players were:
Harry Beck, Warner Kreigh (young boy-mascot), Harry
(Red) Beck, Tom Wagner, Oscar Shady, Ed Bernard, John (Seedy) Kreigh, Oscar
Scherrer, Mont Davison, Harry Sommers, Arthur (Huck) Bowman and Clem
(China)White. All are from Echo except Mont Davison and Arthur (Huck)
Bowman and they were wearing shirts with "Ossian" on the front.
I would LOVE to correspond with anyone about this
and/or obtain resources where to write etc.

Hello everyone;
I am only going to speak for myself. I enjoy getting the posts to
the board sent to me directly in an email format. Reason: I am
not always going to hit the Wells County board every day. I only
want to know about things as they are updated. And if someone
posts to the board a message, or obit, or any other piece of
information, that I am not interested in, I can quickly delete
that email and be done, without spending time looking in several
places on a web site. If I find something of interest, I can
bookmark it, and go back and look at it later. And, I usually
make a note or two to follow up on things later, so if my email
has since been long gone, I know there is information at the
board I was interested in in say, July of 2001.
Email is fast, quick, and effective. You can read it quickly,
and, should it be of no interest to you, quickly and completely
delete it from your system, saving your hard drive space for
things you are interested in.
This list is not the most active list I am subscribed to, and I
enjoy reading the posts that do hit it. So I for just one, would
not vote to have the obit postings gateway to email closed.
Just my thoughts on the matter.

Hi all,
I'm here - and I'm the one that posted all those bios & obits
recently. Sorry about the deluge.
I know this is not apparent, but what's happening is that I'm not
really
sending them to this list - I am actually posting them to the new
message
board at RootsWeb (formerly GenConnect) the same as I always
have. Previously, the obituaries were not being automatically
"gatewayed"
(forwarded) to this list. Now, they are. So far I do not have
the option
to turn this off, but I do plan to as soon as the option is
enabled.
If you all think that this gateway should be disabled
immediately, please
write to me privately and I'll see what we can do about it.
Maybe we can
set up a separate mailing list to receive the posts to the new
message
boards, so that those that don't wish to receive the messages via
email
don't have to. What do you think?
I appreciate your comments. It's nice to know that people are
actually
reading this stuff. I'll hold off on posting any more (current)
obituaries
until I can turn that gateway off. I'll still post the old bios
and obits,
however, so you'll continue to see them until the gateway is
turned off.
Thanks -

I think putting obits and bios on the list is a great idea. But I agree that
it would also be great to put them on the Wells Co., IN web site too. I
don't get to the Rootsweb and Wells Co. sites often but I see my email every
day. Please continue putting this type of info on the list . I find it the
most informative correspondence to the lists I subscribe. Thanx...

I think the idea of posting on the Wells Co. site is an excellent idea as
well!
Since the time has been taken to transcribe the obits, it would not take
much for them to be added to the site.
Is Cathy Burnsed, administrator of the WELLS Co. site at INGENWEB a member
of this list? What do you think?
Karl
Hi all,
I'm not sure what is accomplished by posting obits and bios to the mailing
list. I can certainly understand the value of the information, but wouldn't
it be better to post it to the Wells County Rootsweb site where anyone can
access it, rather than just the subscribers to the digests? Cathy is
undoubtedly doing us a service in providing the info- I'm just not sure it is
the best method. I don't necessarily save all my email and it disappears
after 7 days. I just hate to think that she is wasting her time. We ALL know
how much time genealogy can take!
Just an opinion....
