Surname: Heche, Amiet, Schaffter
-------------------------
I have information on one branch of the Judd family, John Judd, b. 21 Feb
1875 in Whitley County, IN, d. age 95 or 96, I think in Fort Wayne. He
was married to Cecile Sophie Amiet, b. 14 Feb 1873, d. 22 Jul 1956, Fort
Wayne, IN. Cecile's mother was Rosine Heche, who married 1869 to Louis
August Amiet in Wells Co., IN. Rosine Heche's parents lived near Vera Cruz,
Wells Co., IN.
John and Cecile (Amiet) Judd had one daughter, Ada, b. 6 Sep 1908, who
married 15 Oct 1934 to Paul Hazelet. Ada died the year following her marriage,
in Fort Wayne, IN, of TB.
The Amiet history mentions that John Judd had cousins named Double who
had large orchards along the highway to Bluffton, IN.
I have quite a bit more information, including pictures, on this branch
of the family if you are interested.

Surname: BENNETT, PENROD
-------------------------
Edson Bennett's father was William Bennett b:8/5/1859. His mother was Mary
Ellen Penrod b:8/10/1861. William and Mary are my great-grandparents. I
have more info on their ancestors. Misc info: Mary Penrod had a twin brother
named Samuel.
I am not an Alberson researcher except that my Great-Grandmother's sister,
Alice Marker married James "Jim" Henry Alberson in Wells County, IN on 8 Jul
1897. This couple had fifteen children (two still living) and moved to New
Madrid County, MO by 1910, but moved back to Wells County, IN for a short
period between the 1910 and 1920 census. They were back in MO on the 1920
and remained there until their deaths. They are buried in Sikeston, Scott
County, MO.
As these are collateral lines that I research I would be interested to know
who Uncle Jim's (James Henry Alberson) parents were, because I am certain
that many of his descendants know little about the family.
Darlene Shawn
Cathy,
That sounds like a good idea. It is something I would appreciate knowing
although it will probably be a least a year before I can get to Wells
county.
Research time is often limited and knowing in advance how to make the
most of time there should be helpful to all. I'd rather search til' I
drop rather than shop til' I drop.
Nancy Willis
From Kansas
Researching in Wells Co.names Burgess, Chalfant and Richardson
I'd like to put together a webpage for people who are going to Wells County
to do research.
I'm thinking of including information on hotels/motels, restaurants,
special tips for those visiting the city, courthouse or library (how much
do photocopies cost, are there change machines/snack machines on premises),
any local traditions that should be expected (as in - "Don't attempt to do
research in Bluffton during Street Fair week" - I found this out the hard
way!), etc.
What about "must see" things while you're there - things that a person
whose ancestors were there 100 years ago would be interested in seeing or
doing? Historic cemeteries, living museums, "U-Pick" fruit places...??
Would any of you who have experienced Bluffton as a tourist, or who live
there, care to comment?
Thanks,
Cathy Burnsed

Hi Steve,
The reason you are seeing your old posts again is that a drive failure
caused many of the February 2001 posts on the GenConnect system to be lost.
Our query board was among the unfortunate. I was able to repost them because
I had copies on my computer.

Surname: Hopkins, Dailey
-------------------------
I'm trying to find out where the log cabin Barclay and Mary Ann (Dailey)
Hopkins lived in is. I think it's in Wells County, maybe northwest of Montpelier,
and I was told that it had been made part of a park as a historic building.
The cabin was two stories high, and was made of walnut logs. Any information
about this cabin and park would be greatly appreciated. Arthur Hopkins
