I have been searching for quite some time for the whereabouts of John MORGAN
and wife Lova(Lovey)HIGMAN MORGAN. The 1860 Wells Co., Harrison Twp. shows
the Morgan family with Higmans living next to them. Does anyone have access
to cemeteries in that area? John's son David F. MORGAN is buried at Fairview
in Bluffton, but caretaker had no record of John.
Thank you,
Irma Jean Morgan

Am trying to locate MORGAN and/or HIGMAN, last located in Wells Co., Harrison
Twp. 1860 census. John Morgan married Lova(Lovey)Higman in Ohio, but
families were living side by side in above-mentioned census.
They seemed to have disappeared.

The Indiana State Archives is moving, and this problem was brought to attention from the DeKalb County Indiana List.
PLEASE READ THE MESSAGE BELOW !!!
I found this info. on the archive vault at Access Indiana,
http://www.state.in.us/icpr/move.html
( "Visit our new critical records vault" link at bottom left of page)
It boasts of fire safety to 2000 degrees etc, but says NOTHING about being
water proof or humidity control!

RE: [INGEN] Indiana State Archives
All Indiana researchers who use the facilities at the Indiana State Library
should be aware of the following:
The Indiana State Archives will shut down it's research facility in the
Indiana State Library in downtown Indianapolis, February 28th. It will
reopen on the northestside of Indianapolis, at 6440 East 30th Street on March
15th.
There will be more space in the new facility, but those who have checked out
the new building say old problems threatening the safety of documents remain
and a new one crops up. The Archives will be in a state-owned former RCA
Corp. warehouse, built in the 1950's, that has a flat, leaky roof and leaking
pipes. The roof once collapsed under the weight of snow.
In addition the humidity is said to be much too low for storing archival
records. It has been tested at just 10% rather than the desired 40 to 60%.
Let your governor and legislators know that this is a foolhardy action that
could lead to disaster for archival records like military records,
naturalization records, state facilities records, etc.

Hello List,
I am seeking the parents and siblings of GEORGE W. BURNETT,
born in Indiana, November 15, 1862.
I have no idea the county. That was all I could find on census, death
certificate, etc.
On a tape, made when she was very old, his wife Mary, related this story told
to her by GEORGE.
George's mother was killed in an accident or died suddenly, when he was an
infant.
There were other children, don't know ages or how many. George was adopted by
Shoemaker/Shumaker?Shoebaker???
He lived with them until the courthouse burned. It destroyed the adoption
records. I don't know his age at the time this occurred. He was in Sumner
County, Kansas on April 14, 1900. On that day he married Mary M. Bell.
George said he couldn't have left if the records were still available for his
adoption. Reason unknown. When he left Indiana, he took back his birth name
BURNETT, and continued to use it until his death.
This is a brick wall. I would really appreciate any help or advise you could
provide.
If you have any information, you may Email me at JANETSQUAW(a)aol.com
Thank you in advance for your help.
Respectfully yours,
Jan

Any info on the HOLLOWAY family? Thestle Marie HOLLOWAY was born 17 Apr

This article was in the Thursday, February 22, 2001 issue of the Indianapolis Star:
State Seeks Information on Early Graveyards
"Hear the words of one brave woman: "No, I don't want them to write me. I want them to call me."
That's Jeannie Regan-Dinius, whose title at the Department of Natural Resources is database director, but whose job
description might be Cemetery Finder. If you know of an old cemetery in Indiana, she wants to hear from you.
Last year, the Indiana General Assembly authorized the DNR to create an electronic central list of the state's historic
cemeteries and prehistoric burial sites, but provided no money for the project. Regan-Dinius is the only person
involved in the effort to create a new state registry and database.
By the end of this week, she hopes to have a form that people can fill out.
Eventually, she said, the public will have access to the completed database.
If you want to report a cemetery, call Regan-Dinius at the DNR Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology at
(317)232-1646. If you or your group wants to volunteer to help with the project, she really, really wants to hear from
you."
