John W. (Johannes) Fleenor was a very earlier settler of IN.
He was a farmer & pioneer of Wash. Co., IN where he died. Since James G. is shown to
have been born in IN in 1809, assume John was there by then. Book, "Cumberland,
Jasper, Richland Co." says John's is the first home on the land office reg. &
he was the first to place a roof on a log cabin in IN. May 22, 1809 John was listed as a
voter in Wash. Twp., Harrison Co., IN.
From Robert Denny, Westfield, IN, article in the Salem Democrat, Sept.
13, 1905, "I do not know just what year John Fleenor settled on the north east
quarter of sec. 4 north, in the twp. & range 4 east, but I think it was sometime prior
to 1810, perhaps in 1806-08. His home was a near mile & ahalf northeast from
Brock's Fort & as early as 1811 he & a few others constructed a block house
& stockade there, called Fleenor's Fort".
