I figured it was the poor asylum. My gosh, is Mr. January still at
Indianapolis? He helped me back in early '90s with my great uncle Starling
Waughtel's place of burial (Civil War era). He died in hospital in
Tennessee but I had note that he was in the family plot in Scipio where a
monument marks his resting place. Mr. January updated his records to
that. Thanks, and will most certainly contact Mr. January regarding this.

Asylum could have been a reference to the poor asylum or the insane
asylum. In Monroe County, a transportation charge to a poor asylum is
authorized by city commissioners and noted in the commissioners'
minutes. So check that out using the date as a guideline. If you come
up empty handed there, contact Alan January at the Indiana State
Archives in Indianapolis. They have large index of individuals who were
committed to the insane asylum. I don't think that particular index is
online.
