Will have to absorb this a bit more. I thought your name seemed familiar
but I am always "searching" so that means writing <smile>. There were
two
lines of Kerns in southern Indiana - one line tied in with my Sinex, and
this Sinex line also tied in with Mitchell. The other Kern line tied in
with my Waughtel line (my 2nd great grandfather had a sister Jane who was
connected with this Kern line). I have been into neither family recently
so will have to go through my notebooks for actual lineage. But I
appreciate you writing -

Antoinette,
I think we have emailed before. Daniel Kern (1841-1870), son of Daniel
Kern
(1770-1835) and Litha Thomas of NC, married Mary Catherine Mitchell after
the Civil War. Daniel was a Confederate soldier, a gun maker. I'm
assuming
the Mitchells were on the side of the Union. Daniel's parents were John
Kern
and Catherine ?. John's parents were Adam Kern and Maria Barbara Michel.
Mary Catherine Mitchell (1835-1941) was the daughter of Robert Mitchell and
Elizabeth Hole. Robert Mitchell was the son of Thomas Mitchell and
Elizabeth Harmon. Thomas was the son of Robert Mitchell and Elizabeth
Cambell/Capbell. Supposedly Robert Mitchell came from the highlands of
Scotland, but I know nothing that far back. Daniel Kern and Mary
Catherine
Mitchell only had one child before Daniel died within a few months of the
child's birth. Mary Catherine Kern, who never remarried, then lived with
her brother Robert Mitchell with the baby. He was Edward Lester Kern, my
maternal grandfather. Ed Kern married Alice Fisher of Wabash County, IL.
The youngest of their 11 children was my mother, b 1922.
Linda McNeil,
Thanks for researching the Whitecaps! Wow. Bullies on steroids. Or just
plain people trying to protect themselves from outside forces they didn't
understand...
Randi, Thanks for posting about GenealogyBank.
