Oooooh, would I love to know more on this <lol>. My mother's people were
from Salem, Indiana, and migrated out here to Washington state in the fall
of 1904. I believe, they too, were "persecuted" due to their
"religious"
belief of what I have read of newspaper articles on the death of one of
their daughters (my late grandmother's sister). They, at that time, were
of the belief of no medication but prayer only. Their tune must have
changed out here as they did all go to doctors <smile>.

EDITOR SUES WHITECAPPERS
Twenty Residents of Salem, Indiana, Made Defendants in Damage Suit
Indianapolis, Ind., Dec. 28-D. A. Jennings of Columbus, O., has filed suit
in the United States court against about 20 citizens, men and women of
Washington County, Indiana, for $200,000 damages. He claims they
whitecapped him on January 30, 1900, and persecuted him and his family
until
they were forced to leave the state. Jennings ran a newspaper in Salem,
Indiana. He claims the people of the county are so intermarried that they
control the social, religious and political institutions of the vicinity,
and when they undertook to control the policy of his paper, he opposed
them.
