Not related, just trying to help. I believe he was the son of William Monroe and Ida
Spaulding who married in Washington county on 9 Oct 1892, source is book K, page 341. In
the 1900 census the family was in Washington county, Washington township, Dist 143, page
6A, living in Salem town, and was headed by William L Monroe, 70, born Nov 1829, married
45 years, no occupation, born in Ind, father in NC and mother in Ky, and included his wife
Mary J, 65, Jun 1834, married 45 years, mother of 9 of which 6 were still living, Ind,
Ohio, Ky, - his son Sherman, 33, Dec 1866, married 8 years, a farm laborer, Ind, - his
daughter-in-law, Ida M, 27, Sep 1872, married 8 years, mother of 4 all still living, Ind
as were both parents, - his grandchildren, all born in Ind, Mary G, 6, Oct 1893, - Isa M
(female), 4, Sep 1895, - Lena E, 2, Nov 1897, and Thomas R, 3/12. Feb 1900. In 1910 the
family was still in Washington county, Jefferson township, Dist 153, page 5A, and was
headed by William!
S Monroe, 43, married 1 time for 17 years, a farmer-general farm, and included his wife
Ida M, 37, married 1 time for 17 years, - his daughter Mary G, 16, - his daughter Isa M,
14, - his daughter Lena E, 12, - his son Thomas R, 10, and his daughter Ella A, 7, all
born in Ind as were their parents. Immediately above them on the census was his father
and mother. On 12 Sep 1918 Thomas Roscoe Monroe registered for the draft in Detroit, he
was 18, DOB Feb 27, 1900, he was residing at 550 W. Warren, Detroit, was a waiter working
for GB Defoe at 1003 14th Way, Detroit, was white, native born, next of kin was his father
William Sherman Monroe, 559 W Warren, Detroit, he was of medium build and height, had
brown eyes and blond hair. In 1920 he was in a boarding house in Indianapolis, no
occupation. In 1930 he and his wife Margaret were living with his brother-in-law Fred
Green in Detroit, was employed in structual steel-bridge. Hope this helps. Don
