I have been looking into a BRITTAIN/BRITTON line in early 1800's Indiana.
George Washington BRITTAIN Jr. b. 1832 IN d. 1895 IN m. Minerva Maners/Manes in 1850 in
Owen County, IN
George Jr. appears to be the only child ( or only surviving?) of George Washington
BRITTAIN Sr. b. ~1808 VA d. 1876 IN and his 1st wife Rachel GABBERT LOCKHART m 1831 IN
I am attempting to determine who might be the father/parents of George W. Sr.
Some unconfirmed clues ... It is likely that Sarah Brittain Colglazure / Colglazier (1st
wife of Abraham) was a relative/ sister of George W. Sr.?
There are a few other Brittains/Brittons who indicate that they were born in VA living in
the Washington County, IN area during the early 1800's when Indiana was the
"frontier" A Samuel Brittain, Joseph Brittain, Thomas Brittain b. 1800 m.
Catherine Hole, Jane Brittain who married a Aaron Hole --- is anyone researching these
lines?
Based on a DNA test is is possible that GW Brittain was of Scotch/ Scotch-Irish origin.
It also seems less and less likely that the family belongs to a number of well researched
Brittain lines widely discussed on the Internet!
In any case, if you can shed any light on these early indiana Brittains, I'd enjoy
hearing from you.
