Hi Michael, Thanks for your response. I have found the Boling family listed in the 1850,
1860, and 1870 census of Monroe, Washington County, Indiana, along with related families,
Cartwrights and Truebloods, Dobbins, Winslows, Fleener, Newlon as well. I have an
extensive list of the family given me from a Boling family member, but they never listed
their sources. However I have found evidence to corroborate some of the names and
locations. Many of the families in Monroe, certainly the Trueblood family from North
Carolina, were Quakers, as were Dobbins, Winslows, but didn't find Cartwright name in
Quaker records, but believe they were at one time Quakers all from Yadkin County, North
Carolina, and many Truebloods in Randolph County, NC, and next county over certainly were
Quakers, and Redings and Truebloods I believe both related to the Trogden family who were
said to be devout Quakers.
Apparently John Bowling/Boling and Lucielle Randolph (Randell) moved from NC to IN in the
1830's and they were closely associated with the Graves family in Randolph County, NC.
Many related families began immigrating to Clay County, and nearby counties in Indiana
with the Graves family beginning in the 1820's-30's. Some of the wives died on
the trail to Ohio, and crossing the Ohio River into Indiana. They also had to pass
through Kentucky where some children may have been born. (By the way you will notice the
name Larkin is common among the Bowling family. I found research that way back a Graves
man married a Catherine Larkin. Notes are so hard to find, and I can't find the
source note. It was a Graves genealogy. Some of John and Lucy's children were
married in Randolph County (Seagrove Township), North Carolina where marriage records can
be found. Their children were: Bettie, Eliza, John m: Tabitha/Dorcas Reding, Louisa,
Mary Ann, Mattie, Nancy, Neal m: (? I can't!
remember or find notes), Sallie, Westwood died at Gettysburg, Randolph m: Jane Graves,
Benjamin m: (1) Matilda Logan (2) Clarissa Hobbs, Jesse m: (1) Sarah Hobbs (2) Dorinda
Anderson, and Susan. John Bowling who m: Lucy Randolph had a brother Benjamin who married
a Callicoat. The Calicot family also married into the Graves family. A Callicot aunt
verifies the children of Benjamin Bowling and Sally Hancock, and John who m: Lucy Randolph
is one of their children listed.
John Boling and Dorcas Reding's children are listed on the information given me as
Elisha m: Margaret Winslow (some notes I see that Elisha had moved to Missouri and may
have died there in 1859 (or the war?). I found Margaret Winslow, his widow,? in 1860
census in Monroe with my great grandmother, Elizabeth, in her household (visiting?).
Elisha's brother, Francis m: Mary Fleener, Henry m: Ruth Pauley and died in Illinois,
Augustus not married? but who I found in the household of Elijah in 1870 census in Monroe,
Redding m: Lucinda Paulley and moved to Edgar Co., Illinois, Martha m: William McClanahan,
Elijah (younger/different from Elisha?) m: Mary Jane Jones, Alvin m: Margaret Gordon, then
Sarah, then Sela, and I found a Jacob b: 1846 in the 1850 census that had not been listed
on my list. John Boling (apparently after Dorcas died, but not sure on this, I did find a
Dorcas Bowling in Ohio census) m: Eliza Weston, but apparently had no children with her.
Each of John and!
Lucy's family had extensive families as well. I can't list them all here.
I found a listing for Francis Marion Boling, b: @ 1850 born to I think it was Joseph
Bowling and Nancy Shields in Little York, WA Co., IN. At any rate he would have had to be
my great grandmother's half brother if he was born in 1850. She was born in 1854.
But apparently there was another Francis Marion Boling born @1830, as he is listed on the
Boling list I was given as a son of John and Dorcas. But nothing ever found on him. I
wonder if he died in the civil war. I know my great grandmother, Elizabeth's, mother
was Mary Cartwright, but there was no marriage. But with all the children named Francis
in our family, I do wonder if this Francis s/o John and Dorcas, is my Elizabeth's
father, although she was found with Margaret, Elisha's widow? in the 1860 census in
Monroe. So, who knows? Elisha is Francis older brother apparently. Elizabeth Boling
married Alonzo Dobbins, my great grandfather (whose mother was a Winslow). My grandfather
is Ira Dobbins m: Ida Chetwood, !
and their 2nd daughter, Alice Irene Dobbins is my mother who married (Jiggs) Calvin
Douglas Muma, my father. I am their second daughter, and I am married to Ruben Garza. I
have 4 children, 2 grandsons. So, there you know my whole family now. Was that more than
you asked for? Sorry about that.
