I am not a descendant of the family, however, I have been researching
them in an attempt to learn whether or not my Joseph
THORNBRUGH/THORNBERRY on the 1820 Washington Co., IN census is related
to Amos. I have collected information from a number of sources
including the book Monical Family Tree, by Eula Kuhns, 1981. If you'd
like to contact me email direct I would be happy to forward her contact
information.
So far I have:
Amos THORNBURGH, b. abt. 1775 Mercer Co., KY, married Rachel HARBISON on
16 June 1794 in Washington Co., KY. Rachel the daughter of John
HARBISON and Nancy ______, born 29 May 1775 Botetourt Co., VA.
Children:
Benjamin, b. 25 Sept 1797 near Harrodsburg, Mercer Co., KY, married
Susannah MONICAL 20 Feb 1817 Salem, Washington Co., IN. I have the
names for 14 children.
Asa, b. abt. 1808, married Nancy S. WOODS on 8 Oct 1829 Washington Co.,
IN. 8 children
Anna, b. ??, married William MONICAL 18 July 1821 Washington Co., IN
Betsy, b. ??, married John BUNCH 3 April 1828 Washington Co., IN
Daniel, b. ??
Polly, b. ??, married John BREWER on 3 June 1825 Washington Co., IN
Rachel, b. 1812, married James M. MONICAL 29 Jan 1836 Washington Co., IN
It is said that Amos THORNBURGH's parents were Quakers and this goes
along with our family story on our line. I am researching Joseph
THORNBRUGH, married Rebecca GIBSON. Our history handed down states that
he was from NC, went into eastern TN, then on into OH at least by 1806
and into IN by abt. 1815. There is a Joseph THORNBERRY on the 1820
census for Washington Co., IN with family ages listed matching up with
the children we believe our Joseph had by that time. Our Joseph then
shows up in Putnam Co., IN by 1822. He died there by November of 1828.
One of Joseph's daughters said that her father's parents had been
Quakers.
If you'd like that information on Eula Kuhans, let me know.
