Allen,
I don't have a clue as to the Harrison/Harris switch; but have this
information about Alina Boling:
She was the daughter of Gilbert Boling and Martha Ellen Burris/Burrows.
CENSUS: 1860 Washington Co, IN 14 June, Brown Township, Mount Carmel P. O.
page 134, l. 28 #398, lists Gilbert Boling, age 30, farmer, $125, b. IN,
wife was Martha Ellen, age 26, b. IN, children Martha Emerine age 7, Allina
Ellen, age 6, Isaiah, age 4, Mary Elphine age 3, Diantha Elizabeth, age
3/12.
Boling Family File, Washington Co IN Historical Society, shows Washington Co
IN marriage between an Alina Boling and Jacob Harris 23 Mar 1873. If this
is the same Alina, she would have been 19 at the marriage.

Subject: [INWASHIN] Harrison Descendants
Henry F. Harrison (1823-1860) supposedly a s/o Thos. G. & Eliz.
(Aldred)
Harrison (early settlers in Orange Co., IN) married Maria Mise 13 Sept.
1843
in Washington Co., IN. Was this a second marriage for Maria?
1850 census for Washington Twp., Washington Co., IN: Page 676, Dwelling
265,
Family 277: Henry F. Harrison age 24, born in IN; Mary age 27, born in
IL; William S. age 8; John R. age 6; Lucinda age 4; Nancy R. age 2; Henry J.
age 8 months, all born in IN. The date of the census was 24 September 1850.
1860 census for Washington Twp., Washington Co., IN: Page 156, Dwelling
551,
Family 589: Mary Harrison age 35, born in IL; William Silas age 19;
John Riley age 15; Lucinda age 13; Nancy Ann age 12; Henry Jacob age 10;
Sarah Jane age 52; James T. Howard age 7; Susannah age 3; Louisa Ellen age
10 months, all born in IN. Mary is listed as the head of the household
indicating that Henry was deceased and with Louisa Ellen less than 1 year of
age, it suggests that Henry died ca1858.
In the 1880 census for Carr Twp., Jackson Co., IN, William Silas is listed
as Silas
HARRIS.
In the 1880 census for Carr Twp., Jackson Co., IN, John Riley is
listed as
John R. HARRIS.
In the 1880, 1900, 1910 & 1920 census, Henry Jacob is always
listed as
Jacob HARRIS. Jacob died 15 August 1928 and is reportedly buried at
Hyden
(Highton?) Hill cemetery in Carr Twp., Jackson Co., IN. An unidentified
snippet of information that appears to be from a newspaper reports his name
as Jacob Harris and states he was a son of Henry & Mary Harris.
The male children of Henry Jacob & Alina (Boling) Harris are found with
the
HARRIS surname in both the 1910 & 1920 census.
Further, a 1967 obituary for Eva d/o Henry Jacob & Alina (Boling) Harris
reaffirms Harris as the family surname.
Did the sons of Henry F. Harrison truly drop the "ON" and change their
name to Harris? Can anyone shed any light on this puzzle?
Thank you.
Allen
