NEWS RELEASE
The Annual Family Reunion of the Descendants of Amos Milroy Allen (1886-1961) and his
wife, Ida Zolula (Blankenbaker) Allen (1887-1969) will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2005,
starting at noon, at the Village Park, Hindsboro, Illinois. All descendants, relatives,
and friends are invited to attend. Please bring a pot luck dish to share, your own table
service, and lawn chairs, etc. There is a ball diamond, basketball courts, and playground
equipment for the "kids."
Amos and Ida Allen and their infant daughter left Washington County, Indiana for Douglas
County, Illinois in July of 1908 on a train, getting off at Filson Station, where they
first stayed with his cousin, Albert R. Stewart and family. He was a farm hand for the
Clapp Family and also worked for the railroad for years. She was a hand-finisher at the
Colligate Cap and Gown Factory in Arcola. They attended the Primitive Baptist Church in
Hindsboro and are buried in the Van Voorhis "Deer Creek" Cemetery, north of
town. They had four children, Thelma Easter (Allen) Strader (1908-1984), Leoma Jewell
(Allen) Cox (1909-1990), Minnie Gertrude (Allen) Clark (1911-2003), and Montell Ray
"Monk" Allen (1913-1985). There were 19 grandchildren, with 4 deceased, and 50
great-grandchildren, with 1 deceased. At last count there were 93
great-great-grandchildren, with 3 deceased, and 15 great-great-great-grandchildren, with 1
deceased. This number does not include the various step-children.
