Good Morning Everyone,
First of all, I would like to say a big THANK YOU to Marjiann Souder, John
Mead and Jerry Mounts for the help and information they have given me after
my last inquiries. (Marjiann, I am still working on the SHERWOODs and will
contact you privately on them.)
Marjiann found Mary (Beaman) NEWBY living with her grandson, John NEWBY (son
of Elija and Caroline Grubb) on the Washington Co (Howard twp) 1860 census.
This is the same John Newby who had strong connections to Clay Co, IL
(apparently lived there off and on and is buried there along with his first
wife, Matilda Smith, in the Kinnamon Cem.)
Fortunately, I live in an adjoining county to Clay with a good little,
active, genealogical society which is located in our local library. I made
a research trip there yesterday to search for primarily NEWBYs in hopes to
see if Mary Beaman Newby may have been buried there. That search came up
negative (so far.) However, what I did find, were MANY familiar Washington
Co, IN surnames. This really surprised me (maybe some of you already knew
this?)
I even found (who I believe to be) a dau. of John Pavey (1812-1852, Wash.
Co), Emily Pavey, b: Wash. Co, 1844, who md. a David JACOBS in Clay Co. in
1864. John PAVEY was a son of 'my' Anderson PAVEY and his first wife, ?
NEWBY. Anderson's second wife is my line, Penina Allene Beaman Pavey, a
sister to Mary Beaman NEWBY. So, some of these people apparently migrated
quite early. This Emily had a sister, Nancy, who md: Simon Peter GRESHAM in
Wash. Co., in 1866 and although they didn't migrate themselves, they were
family connected to the Wash. Co. COLCLASURES and TRINKLES. There are many
Colclasures and Trinkles in the Clay Co. records. On the 1870 census there
was a Richard Colclasure, age: 76, born in PA and a Jacob Colclasure, age:
68, born in KY.
The woman from our geneal. society who was helping me lives down near Xenia
(Clay Co) and told me her Minister's name is Colclasure!
I'm hope to be doing a lot more research around this area for Wash. Co.
families in the next few months and will keep anyone posted that has any
interest (probably be best to email me privately?)
