Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

KILLED SELF AFTER DIGGING GRAVE
Salem, Ind., June 28-After having dug his own grave in the family burying
ground, Joseph B. Hamilton, a farmer living east of Salem, committed suicide
today by shooting himself with a shotgun. He seated himself on a stump and
tripped the trigger of the gun with his toe.

LYNCHING FEARED AT SALEM, IND.
Louisville, Ky., Dec. 31-The jail at Salem, Indiana, in which are confined
police detective John Sexton, assistant jailer John Brown, and Richard Land,
all of Louisville, who while in search of an escaped prisoner, shot John
Rippey, an innocent man, is being guarded on account of the mutterings of
the angry populace. Gov. Matthews came down from Indianapolis to see that
order is being preserved. The grant jury is investigating the case.

My grandparents and great grandparents are buried in Gater Cemetery....My grandmother and her siblings attended Gater School....
