Gee, this is really great news to have. I have done quite a lot of genealogical research in Washington County, Indiana, and have purchased their issues of history books. Will take a look in them to see if I locate the name of John Kennedy. Where did Hallie Beck originate from, do you know? I had some Marley-Beck kin in Stringtown from about 1907 and the Marleys still live there. I would like to know more. When was Hallie born and where did she die? When was your mother born and where? Is she still living?? THANKS A MILLION!

Good to hear from you. Yes there are headstones at Mt Washington Cemetery. John T is there along with his parents. John T's grandmother and grandfather are in Sinking Springs Cemetery in Washington County. Once I get my information together I will send you more information. My grandmother Zetta Mable Lockenour died as a result of complications of appendicitis. My father was the youngest son of Zetta and Charles K Guthrie. There is a Lockenour in Bedford, I believe he is/was a Chiropractor. We exchanged mails about 5-6 years ago, and I guess I let the connection drop. Anyway, I will send you more info soon. Maybe we should send info via email.

This is great! I know nothing about your grandmother. I only know she married a Guthrie, and died before 1931. Her brother George was my husband's grandfather. My husband knows little about his grandfathers family. I have found the obits for John Thomas Lockenour, Mary Alice Crim Lockenour Joos and Lillian Lockenour McGinnis Buckelew. This is where I found he had a brother and sisters. Lillian is buried next to George at Beech Grove Cemetery in Bedford, IN. I am trying to find out if there is a headstone for John Thomas Lockenour in the cemetery in Washington County. I have the directions to the cemetery, Mount Washington, but I don't want to make the trip if there is nothing to find. I can give you info on George's family if you are interested.
Hope to hear from you soon.

My great-great grandfather, Morgan Smedley, married Gilla Anna Watts and they moved to Smedley IN from Lexington KY, bringing his parents with them. Morgan Smedley's father, John W., was married to Margaret Morgan, an aunt to Confederate General John Hunt Morgan, also of Lexington, KY.
Is Gilla Anna of the same Watts family that you are researching?

Robert Brown's parents, according to his obituary, were William and Mary aka Polly Brown from Virginia. Mary aka Polly was born abt 1777 from the 1850 census. William died before August 13, 1842 and I presume they are buried in the Brown Family Cemetery. Have not located documentation. I would like to know where in Virginia they originated. My line goes from Robert and Lucinda to James Grover Brown, married to Mary Catherine Bush to James Grover Brown aka Grover James Brown who was married to Monica L. Bradley to Norman Bradley Brown who was married to Jeannette A. Hansen, my parents.
I would like to know when Robert Clinton Brown married and when he died. I couldn't find him in the 1930 Federal Census. I will be happy to give you dates if you are interested.

Roberta, I am sorry for the great delay.
Morgan Smedley was my great-great-grandfather and he was a cousin of Confederate Gen. John Hunt Morgan in the Civil War. General Morgan spent a quiet evening with Morgan Smedley while Morgan's Raiders looted and burned Salem IN.
I think I recall my mother Dorothy Smedley Hause born 3/6/1916 of her Aunt Glenn and will ask her when I call her this week.
I am going home for a visit soon to look up my Smedley cousins, both dead and alive.

Jon,
If you don't mind a little Smedley family humor -and history-, there well have been a Quaker meeting near Smedley IN. The Smedleys reputedly had once been members of the Friends of Society in Europe but were kicked out for chasing women and rowdy drinking. And, the men were no angels either.
I am a direct descendant of John W. Smedley and Morgan and collateral relative to John Hunt Morgan.

Sorry, it has taken all of these years to locate this board and I hope you found the info you needed.
John W. Smedley was married to Maragaret Morgan, possibly an aunt to Conf. Gen. John Hunt Morgan (Morgan's Raiders) who actually spent the night at his cousin Morgan Smedley's farm the night Morgan's Raiders looted and pillaged nearby Salem IN. My mother Dorothy Smedley Hause (b 3/6/16) is still very alert and helping me with our family genealogy.

Message Board Post:
I am looking for information about Ruth Becknell (or Bicknell) and Samuel Coe, married about August 16, 1846, in Brown Township, Washington County, Indiana.
Ruth was born about 1826 in Indiana, possibly Delaware County.
Samuel was born about about December 10, 1808, in Ohio.
Ruth's father was William Becknell/Bicknell, possibly born in Tennessee. William was married about 1825 in Indiana; wife's given name possibly Mary, born NC or SC.
Samuel's father was John Coe, born in Virginia or Ohio; mother unknown
After their wedding in 1846, Samuel and Ruth Coe settled in Iowa. William Becknell and his family followed them soon after, before the 1850 census.
I'm hoping a marriage record might provide more details about Ruth's and Samuel's parents, as this is where I hit a brick wall with my research.
Thank you,
Janice Martin
(couple's great-great granddaughter)
