I am searching for information on Daniel Snider (Snyder,Schneider) parents and siblings. He was born in NC in 1795 and came to IN before 1820. He marries Jane Spurgin daughter of Jesse and Lydia Brazelton Spurgin abt 1820. Their first child is born Nov 1820. He moves to Bartholomew Co by 1825 where most of his children are born. Then on to Ill and finally dies in1873 in Caldwell County Missouri where he moved to in 1852.

In the 1850 census, I found "Gilbert Paine" (age 21, b. abt.1823 in IN), his wife "Polly" (age 21, b. abt. 1832 in IN), and their daughter "Martha" (age 1, b. in IN) living in Owen Township, Jackson Co., Indiana.
They were living next door to "Matthias Paine" (age 52, b. in NY), his wife "Mary A. Paine" (age 47, b. in NY), and their children. I would assume that Matthias and Mary are probably Gilbert's parents. There are Dunlap's near by, also.
Gilbert married Polly Dunlap May 10, 1848 in Jackson Co., Indiana, according to the Indiana Marriage Collection, 1800-1941. Gilbert married Grace Sparks Nov. 13, 1862 in Washington Co., Indiana (same source).
Grace, b. Nov 1838 in Kentucky, already had at least one child from a previous relationship at the time she married Gilbert. This son was David, born in Kentucky in 1857-1858. According to the 1870 census, Gilbert and "Gracie" "Paigne" were living in Browning Twp, Schuyler Co., Illinois.
Gilbert has four children from his marriage to Polly living at home. They are Martha (age 20, b. in IN), Sarah (age 15, b. in IN), Charles (age 14, b. in IN), and William (age 11, b. in IN). Grace's son David is also living in the home. He is age 12.
At the time of the 1880 census, Gilbert and "Gracia H." Payne are living in Astoria Twp, Fulton Co., IL. They have one 5-month-old son named Samuel (b. Dec. 1879 in IL) with them.
In 1900 they again appear as residents in Astoria Twp, Fulton Co., IL. At this point, they have no more children at home. This seems to indicate that Samuel has died. The census indicates that Grace has given birth to five children in her lifetime, only one of whom is still living -- perhaps David Sparks?
Also, both the 1880 and 1900 census records indicate that Gilbert's father was born in New York and his mother was born in Kentucky.
Gilbert's son by Polly Dunlap, William Riley Payne was born in Salem, Washington Co., Indiana, Feb. 1858, d. Dec. 1946 in Calgary, Canada. William's sister, Sarah B., is the wife of William Hill, whose daughter Myrtle met her husband-to-be at William's daughter Ethel's wedding to Benjamin C. Morrow. Myrtle married Benjamin Morrow's uncle!
William married (and later divorced) Isabelle Hendricks in Plymouth, Ill, in 1878. To them were born 6 children, one of which is my husband's grandmother, Ethel Isabel Payne. The other children were Cora, Bessie, Basil, Merlin, and Cloie (who died in infancy).
I have also found Milo Paine in the 1840 census, but I'm not sure where he fits in. Someone (BrentB?) on this list made a list of the Paynes of Washington Co. and listed Milo as marrying Elizabeth, and listing a son named Gilbert, who married a woman named Mary Dunlap (aka Polly?).
So who is Matthias Payne and wife Mary?? This is confusing!

My GGGGrandfather Nelson Hamiltion Aton (b 1825) was the son of John Aton (1801-1860) and Suzanna Thomas (1803-1856). Suzanne's maiden name was Babbs. She was born in North Carolina and was living in Washington County Indiana while married to Aton and I believe she died there - her will was probated there and names her brother, Edwin or Edward Babbs. Suzanna and John Aton apparently separated as he remarried long before her death date of abt 1856 in Washington County Indiana.
I have no explanation for her last name of Thomas when she married Aton unless she had been married before.
This has been a brick wall for some time.
Thank you

OK - here's the info. Taken from "The Doane Family" , Volume II, Compiled by The Doane Family Association of America, Inc., page 31.
597. (Vol. I, #94, iv, p.124)
JACOB DOAN (John, Joseph, Daniel, Daniel, John)
was b. Cane Creek, N.C., ca. 1760/61, d. ca. 1851, Washington Co., Ind; m. 1818, Hannah Stubbs. He was a scout in the American Revolution and was disowned by Cane Creek Meeting of the Soc. of Friends for bearing arms. He was restored to membership, June 2, 1792. In the 1790 U.S. Census of Hillsborough Dist., Chatham Co., N.C., he is listed as having one free white male under 17, and two free white females. We believe that he and his family left N.C. early in the 19th Century. They stayed briefly in Clinton Co., Ohio, but prior to 1871, most of the family moved on to Washington Co., Ind. His grave at Honey Creek, Wash. Co., Ind., where he was thought to be the first permanent settler in 1809, is described as "about one mile from Hardinsburgh, a rough stone marker". As a scout in the Federal Army in the Rev., it has been marked by the D.A.R. of New Albany, Ind. His wife, Hannah, is thought to have died in 1817. Jacob may have married a 2nd time in 1820 an Anna Culberts!
on but no wife survived him. Jacob d. without a will and his estate was divided among his surviving children and grandchildren.
(Listing of children follows this.)
Volume II Corrections amends the above as follows:
