I AM NEW TO YOUR SITE AND TRYING TO FIND OUT ANYTHING ANYONE MIGHT KNOW ABOUT
AUGUSTUS W. PETTY.
This man appears in your 1860 Census and I have found that he entered the
Civil War from that area. I have not located him since then and cannot seem to
find online census for after that. He was in Jordan TP in 1860. I believe
that his middle initial was W. perhaps for William but not positive of the name,
only the initial.
He was originally from Clark Co., OH and the s/o of John Petty and Martha
Fort who lived there following their marriage there in 1830. I think he had
sisters Jane, (Half), brother Thomas (half), and full sister Ann C. F. Petty who
married Washington Pierce/Pierce/Pearce in Clark Co. in December 26, 1850. The
entire family disappeared after the 1850 Census in OH. I cannot find either
parent after then and I think John, father of Augustus, died shortly
thereafter. In the same area but not necessarily in the same family was a Reuben and
Solomon PETTY.
Does anyone know anything at all about this family? They are related to the
PETTY family in Perry Co., OH and Lawrence Co., IL if the Augustus is who I
think he is.
Please let me hear from you if you have any ideas whatsoever.
Thank you.
Marjory PETTY Austen
