I need a lookup for the family of John W. GAMBLE in the 1870 census for town of
Independence. I found the family in the transcription of the 1860 census, but they
weren't included in the transcription for the 1870 census.
I also need further information about this family. A posting at INWARREN states that John
W. GAMBLE married an Elizabeth ARMSTRONG on 2 Apr 1871. However, the obituary of his
sister, Elizabeth H. (GAMBLE) NICHOLS states that "shortly after her marriage [22 Feb
1871] her brother died, leaving three little orphan girls, whom she took, and with a
devotion, born of love, she began the training of these young lives as her own
offspring." So, did he die in 1871, as the obituary states, or did his first wife,
Nancy, die and his new wife didn't want to put up with little girls not her own?
