This is my first submission to this list. I've been researching the DeZarn
Family since May 1999. Much of my time to date has focused on my ancestors
from Clay County, Kentucky, and the states of Virginia, North Carolina, and
Tennessee.
I have traced my ancestors back to Johann Frederick Desern who immigrated
from Germany (Prussia) in 1753. Johann arrived in Philadelphia on Tuesday,
September 11, 1753, aboard the Queen of Denmark. His original port of
departure was Hamburg, Germany. It is believed, but not yet proven, that he
was accompanied by two sons, Frederick and Francis. Research of me and
others reveals that Frederick Desern was the father of Francis "Frankie"
DeZarn, who was born in 1789 in North Carolina. I am convinced at this
juncture that Francis "Frankie" was the person who brought the DeZarn Family
bloodline into Kentucky during the early 1800's. Most of my immediate
ancestors left Kentucky during the early 1920's and settled in Warren County
and surrounding areas.
As a result of a phone call I received yesterday from a long lost 1st cousin
(Pearl "Jim" DeZarn), I want to focus on gathering information regarding the
DeZarn's of Warren County and surrounding areas.
I was born in Pence, Indiana on June 12, 1943 at the home of my beloved
grandparents, Green and Daisy DeZarn. They and other DeZarn family members
are buried in a cemetery that is less than one mile down the road from where
their home used to stand. The house was sold in 1978 following Grandma
Daisy's passing and was later demolished. I think that my father, Donald
DeZarn, Sr., sold the house, property, and possession to Matt Martin.
I graduated from Williamsport High School with the Class of 1961.
I'm hoping this initial inquiry by me will reach some who can help me fill
in some holes in my research.
Warm regards to all,
Donald DeZarn, Jr.
