Jack,
Although I do not have any family connection to the Briles family of Warren
Co., IN, I do have first-hand knowledge of some of them.
I graduated from WHS in May 1961 and attended school with Sam Briles'
children Dick, Mary, and another son whose name I cannot recall. As you
probably now, Sam was a school bus driver for many years. My grandfather,
Green DeZarn, was also a school bus driver in the early 1950's. He
transported the kids to and from there farm homes in and around Pence.
Dick Briles later married Sheryl Tanner (also Class of '61). I believe they
later divorced, and she still lives in Williamsport. I don't know what
happened to Mary and her younger brother.
I too was in Williamsport in September 2000. It was my first visit there
since May 1978. So much has changed, and yet much remains the same. The
first home my family and I lived in on Monroe Street (near today's school)
is still standing and in good condition. We referred to it as the "old stone
house." We moved into it in May 1946 shortly after my mother remarried. We
lived there until the summer of 1949 (just before I started the 1st grade),
at which time we moved to a house on 11 Midway Street. It was located on the
curve of Highway 28 across from Harry Wagner's blacksmith shop and, later,
the Van Reed package store.
This house, which was an old two-story brick structure, was later sold to
the local REMC by my mother following my stepfather's death. It was later
demolished. Today on the land it occupied stands the building that houses
the Warren County Historical Society. I think it's somewhat ironic in view
of my strong interest in genealogy.
Best Wishes to All,
Donald DeZarn

Subject: [INWARREN] BRILES and Related Families in Warren Co.
Does anyone have Any information on BRILES buried in Warren Co. Cemeteries.
I
have several unknown Ancestors and Relatives Buried there. I also don't
have
access to 1900-10-20 census record to Warren Co. I also do not have access
to
cemetery records for Warren co. In case you know of a BRILES in Warren co.
it is a fact that all BRILES are cousins of some number. The name did not
exist until it was first written in Virginia by Conrad BROHL whose son
Fredrick used the misspelling from German to English of BRILES. It has
remained since.
I was in Warren Co. in 2000, and got some Photo copies in the
Courthouse. The young Lady that helped my wife and I make the Copies was a
BRILES before marrying. Sam or Fred was her Grandfather I believe, I can't
remember her married name, so I can't look her up in my Data Base, That is
what makes it hard. The Women get married, their name changes and they get
lost. I and my wife don't agree with this. That's why we try to get the
Young
ladies married names also, so they can be recorded the same as the Males.
Thanks in advance for any help I can get. I hope to close out All relatives
in Warren by July. Thanks Again,
Jack E. Briles Sr
