John Strantz
After an illness of many months with a complication of diseases
John STRANTZ died at 8:15 o'clock last night at his home, 240 South
Salisbury street, West Lafayette. He was born July 16, 1839, in
Saxon-Weimar, Kesselbach, Germany. He came to this country when a
young man and December 25, 1863, enlisted as a private in Company L,
Indiana cavalry, and served 3 years in the war of the rebellion. He
united in marriage with Anna FISHER, November 27, 1868, and ten
children who still survive, where born to them. Mrs. STRANTZ died
February 29, 1908. Mr. STRANTZ came here from Medaryville about 8
years ago. He was a farmer and lived in Green Hill at one time. Mr.
STRANTZ was an earnest member of the German Lutheran Church and was a
man of excellent character. Nine daughters and one son survive.
They are Mrs. George HILDENBRAND, of Otterbein; Mrs. John SELMER,
Mrs. John RICHARDSON, Mrs. Charles BOES, Mrs. Frank LIZENBY, Miss
Anna STRANTZ and Rudolph STRANTZ of Medaryville; Misses Minnie Hanna
and Bertha STRANTZ of West Lafayette. One brother, Valentine
STRANTZ, of Chalmers, and one sister, Mrs. TETLACH (sic) [Katherine
Elizabeth (STRANTZ) TETZLOFF], of Medaryville, also survive. The
funeral will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the German
Lutheran church, Rev. George SCHUMM officiating. Interment in
Springvale cemetery.
