Thanks for your speedy reply. Despite the coincidence of the Vigo co, IN. location, your
Moses Drake is not connected to my Kentucky Drake family.
There were at least 7 genetically different Drake families in Kentucky before 1800. Drakes
in Mason, Muhlenburg and Christian counties descended from Piscatawy NJ Drakes.
Cornelius Drake in Nelson county is descended from the so-called "Dutch" Drakes
of NY. John James Drake provides another , as yet, unconnected line. Jesse Drake and his
wife Jemima Rose were in Lousiville and are another distinct line with more recent origins
in England.
My Drake line traces to VA with a close genetic relationship to the Drakes of Isle of
Wight county, VA, but probably descended from the Drakes of Westmoreland co, VA. Both
these lines seem to have come from Somerset, England and sailed out of Bristol in 1658 and
1661 respectively.
The Virginia families: Drake, Bennett, Redman, Marrs, Kester, and Norman mingled with the
NJ families of Heady, Stillwell, Truax, Blue, and Goodwine during the time period
1769-1795 in SW Pennsylvania. All these families had members migrate to Kentucky between
1780 and 1800.
