On at least one census record back then Indiana was shortened as IA which
most people believed to be Iowa. I found this out as I knew my "party" was
in Indiana and asked and yes it did show "incorrect" abbreviation.

Unable to locate her in 1850/1860 Federal
Census records with a father name John born
IN/PA. Pick up on her when she was married
to a Temple Smith of Owen Co IN and they
had a daughter, my dads' maternal grandmother Charlotte Jane "Lottie" in
1866
Melbourn Boone Co IA. I know there was a
Boone Co IN but her death record indicates
born IA. Then Martha and her family are in
Frontier Co NE in 1870.
Where did she and her family disappear to
after 1848 and before 1866?
