The name Hodges jogged my memory. William A. Hodges married Nancy Catherine Montgomery,
daughter of George W. Montgomery and Margaret Parcus (Parkus, etc) of Fontanet, Vigo Co.
Then I have in my notes on the Montgomery family from a correspondent, Virginia
Frederick:
"... We looked at the genealogy compiled by an A.C. Graybeal whose family lived in
Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Graybeal interviewed Grandpa [Alexander Montgomery, younger
brother of Nancy] and found out that his mother [Margaret Parcus, we know now] had died
when Grandpa was only three weeks old. Grandpa told him that he left Fontanet when he was
14 years old with his older sister Nancy Catherine and her husband whose last name was
Hodges and their infant daughter. Their trip took about three months and the baby learned
to walk on that trip by holding on to the wagon in some manner." [If Alex was 14,
the trip would be 1859, just before the Civil War and a number of these kin, including
Alex, fought for the Union.]
This person is a Nancy Hodges, but by marriage.
I know William A. is on one of the censuses for Iowa, as in Nancy C. (Montgomery) Hodges.
