On the older marriage records (sorry, I don't know the exact dates, I just know
it's in the time frame of the one you inquired about) there were TWO different
records: the application in the book and the certificate. For some only one or the other
has been digitized so far, for others (such as the one you were interested in) both have
been done & added to the library's site. If you go to
http://www.vigo.lib.in.us/marriage just enter the surname of one or the other - unless
it's a common surname. It will only give you exact matches. So if you enter Sander
for example, but it's Sanders on the record, you'll only get matches for Sander,
no Sanders.
But to get back to the double records. After searching for "Sanders" I saw that
there were two records for Dan Sanders with the same date. One is the certificate &
the other one is the record in the book with the detailed info. Many of the earlier
records (before 1880 or so) only give the names of bride & groom, date, & person
who performed the ceremony.
I did a search on your second couple, & putting all the info in for the search only
pulls up the certificate. But searching only for "sanders" brings up both types
of records. George Sanders was the son of Walter Sanders and the only thing I see for his
mother's name is "Johnson". Emma Russel's father is listed as George
Russel, but there's nothing at all listed for her mother's name.
Feel free to send me another message if this doesn't make sense or if you're still
having problems with it.
