Yes, my wife is a Wythe (Wyeth) the name was used interchangeably even among her ancestors
in the Civil War. We have letters where they corresponded with their own family and
signed letters and addressed them using both spellings. We visited Saxtead, England about
6 years ago and went to the church where Nicolas Wyeth (the name was originally Wythe -
meaning "Willow by a brook") was a member. Several of the Wyeth/Wythe
tombstones in the MeWhinney Cemetery near Riley, IN have the Willow tree on the markers.
We visited there about three years ago and I took, and posted, pictures on the
Find-A-Grave site.
