Hi everyone -
Question: Is there someone who is considered an expert on the Vigo Court Records who
would consult with me on my search?
In the records for Vigo Co. on microfilm at Salt Lake, we found the following:
FHL 2422976, item 1- 8 Oct 1889
Civil Order Books, Circuit Court, Vigo Co., IN
Vol. 45: 4 Feb 1889 to 12 Oct 1889; p. 589
James Cox vs. Eliza Cox - No. 15507 - a divorce
Abstract: James rep by J.H. Blake, atty; Eliza, a non-resident of the county, absent;
judge set court date for 2 Dec 1889
FHL 2422976, item 2 - 20 Jan 1890
Civil Order Books, Circuit Court, Vigo Co., IN
Vol. 46: 14 Oct 1889 to 29 May 1890; p. 262
James Cox was granted a divorce from Eliza Cox who did not appear and made default;
reference made to complaint and evidence
Note: All of the indexes to the Vigo Court records were searched and there was no
reference to a complaint or evidence pertinent to this divorce.
In order to determine if this record is valuable to our search, we need to know the
following:
1. Do the complaints and records of evidence for these old court records exist somewhere
in Vigo County? Or, are they part of the Salt Lake collection but not indexed
adequately?
2. Is there someone who is considered an expert on the Vigo Court Records who would
consult with me on this search?
Many thanks,
Kathie
