I would like to pay a researcher to copy records if there are any from a church book
that is in the Vigo Co. Library. The title is " Kirchenbuch der deutschen
evangelish- lutherischen Gemeinde U.A.,C, 1858-1880". The church is now Immanuel
Lutheran Church on Popular and across from the library. There was no index in 2002 but
may be now. The book is in German but apparently it is fairly easy to recognize the
family names. I am looking for any records from the church ( birth, marriage, death,
possibly baptisms) for any Conover ( sometimes spelled Konover), Snedeker/ Snidiker and
Warth/ Worth. The German Lutheran records I have found in Ohio sometimes list where
the family was originally from, gave sponsors for the events as well as a few gave
remarks about the parents. I would also like for the researcher to see if there are
available any Methodist Church records for the 3 families or Baptist records.
William Conover brought his family to Terre Haute about 1856/57 from Cincinnati,
Hamilton County, Ohio. He was originally from Middlesex County, New Jersey. Anna
Catherine Warth Conover was from Canton Glarus, Switzerland and married William Conover
about 1837 in New Jersey. In later years they are Methodist but the Warth family was
Lutheran. Ralph R. Conover came to Terre Haute about 1837 and brought his family about
1840 from Newark, New Jersey. A Vigo County History states he was Baptist. He is
believed to be a sibling of William Conover. Ralph R. was married to Elnore Snedeker
of Cranbury, Middlesex Co., New Jersey. Both men had children born and married in Vigo
County. The men and their wives are buried together in Woodland Cemetery. A third
sibling, Samuel S. Conover and wife Sarah Frances Weeks, came to Terre Haute about 1857
and returned to Rahway, New Jersey after 1880. No issue known.
Thank you for any help. Please e-mail me if someone knows a paid researcher.
