and Sarah is this the same one?
Thanks, Joan
Thanks to me, this is getting very complicated. Are these folks you mention
above in Vigo Co, or are they in Polk/Monona Cos IA?
My Jessie/Jesse C. MELTON married Sarah Melvina NUTT in Apr 1851 in Polk Co
IA. There is notation that Jessie was in Monona Co IA as a farmer between
1851 and 1861, and I assume Sarah was with him. She was born in 1836, which
would make her 24 years old in 1860 and, I suspect tho no proof, had borne
a couple of their seven kids by that time. I believe, without checking back
in my notes, that Jessie and Sarah and children left for CA in 1861 with
her father, Elias NUTT. If not in 1861, then a very few years later.
My points remain, however. It would be worthwhile for Melton descendants of
Vigo Co IN circa 1850-60 to look closely at Polk and Monona Cos in IA. It
is quite possible the Meltons in those two counties are closely related to
the Meltons in Vigo. My research establishes that a number of families from
Vigo (1850-60) moved about the same time to Polk and Monona Cos. There were
definitely Melton farmers in Monona Co in this period.
Sorry I can't do any better than that. Best of hunting. Don
