Vital records (birth/death) in Vigo County start in 1882.....still, I know
there are portions of those records missing. Part of the 1892 death records
aren't there, so don't give up if you don't find what you're looking for.
Marriage records are available prior to that time (1882). Ask for the
Marriage Application, since those provide much more info. than the marriage
license.
For birth info. prior to 1882, look for church records and published
histories. For deaths, check all cemeteries in the area. Definitely check
funeral records....I've found a lot of info. there when a cert. has been
missing. Write the cemetery for cem. records. Check the local library for
bible records, other researchers, etc.
Never leave a stone unturned!

Does anyone know if there are birth records in Vigo Co as far back as 1855?
Family history is that my g-grandmother was born in Terre Haute but the
family was living in Hendricks Co in 1850 and in Mercer Co., MO by 1860.
