Below is more dialogue about the issue that I received today. Sorry I did
not fully explain everything, but I was at work and only had time to pass on
the email that I had received. There has been much discussion about it on
some of the lists, and Dick Eastman posted about it too.
The IBC is the Internet Biographical Collection that was released briefly
last week on
Ancestry.com. It caused much controversy due to the fact that
it was a compilation of other websites that deal with genealogy. It
included FreePages sites on
Rootsweb.com, and other personal websites that
were out there to promote free genealogy.
Ancestry.com cached the websites,
so there would still be access to them, even if the original owner took them
down. People thought it was a copyright violation. At first,
Ancestry.com
put the IBC on their paid subscription pages. Then, after receiving
complaints, they changed it to free access for everyone. Now, they have
pulled the project completely off their site.

Thank you very much Anna. May I forward your note to appropiate Project
lists? And who would you like folks to contact if they still have issues.
I very much appreciate your prompt answer to this concern.
Thank you,
Tina

Tina,
I saw your comment below regarding the cached pages from the Internet
Biographical Collection that was released briefly last week on
Ancestry.com,
and wanted to make sure that you were clear that it has been completely
removed from the site. Below is the latest post on the topic:
http://blogs.ancestry.com/circle/?p=1792
The collection is not accessible or searchable. We have worked to make
sure that any cached pages have been removed and are not accessible, even if
trying to go back to them with a saved URL. If you or your members find
that there are cached pages that you can still access, please first try
clearing the internet cache on your computer. If you can still access the
cached page after that, please provide us with the URL so that we can look
into the issue further and resolve the error.
Thanks,
Anna

Good morning all --
There has been much discussion throughout the genealogical
community and USGenWeb Project lists regarding Ancestry's
IBC launch. The USGenWeb Project has been contacted by
TGN, and all correspondence to date regarding this
collection has been shared with the Project. They have
halted and dismantled the collection.
The Advisory Board is also aware of continuing concerns
throughout the Project that cached pages are still being
accessed. The Advisory Board will contact Ancestry for
further clarification of this issue. Thank you all very
much for your patience as we work to answer your concerns.
