There was a Methodist Episcopal Church in the NW corner of Sugar Creek
Township very near the Fayette Township border. The closest town (or hamlet)
is Sandford. The chuch is no longer standing but there is a fair sized
cemetery name Pisgah which was associated with the church (which might also
have been called Pisgah).
Many from the families I'm researching are buried in this cemetery.
The surnames I'm researching as well as some of the more common names found
there are ADAMS, CROCKETT, EVINGER, GOSNELL, HOUSTON, HUSSONG, KUYKENDALL,
McCLEARY, REESE, RIPPETOE, and SMITH.
In my research I stumbled across the deed, dated April 1, 1839,
for the land given to start the church. Names associated with that deed
include the donors Luke HOOD and wife Elizabeth HOOD, the trustees -
William B. RIPPETOE, Fredrick FRENCH, John M. REECE, David SMITH,
Cornelius M. LANKFORD, and David RIPPETOE, and William CUMINGS,
as well as the witnesses Nicholas RIPPETOE and Hiram H. HYDEN.
Would be very interested in corresponding with anyone researching
any person associated with the church in the 19th century, or with anyone
who has more information about the history of the church. And naturally
with anyone searching any of the same lines as I am.
