Subject: Re: [INVIGO] 1835 Census of Terre Haute (Vigo County),
Indiana
Thank you for the look-ups that follow:
Page 70, Column 2
Francis, William
"William Francis seems to have had his wife, a small boy, a
smal girl
and an older boy with him, while Alex C. King's family consisted of
five boys and a girl under 10, his wife and himself and a boy over
10."
Page 71, Column 2
Warren, Chauncey
"Chauncey Warren appears next with a wife and four boys, two
under and
two over 10 and a negro maid servant."
Page 72, Column 2:
Britton, John
"Mrs. Margaret Hodge, with two men and two boys lived next to
John
Britton, who had a small girl, a wife, three small boys and two males
over 10. He died in 1853 at the age of 61 and his wife, who was born
in 1809 and died in 1856, named in her will her daughter, Mrs.
Ashley, and her children, her daughter Civilia, daughter Catherine and
her sons, Deming and John." [Upon first reading I thought that the
last children named might be children of Mrs. Ashley, but on second
reading it appears to me that the last children, in fact, are children
of John and Mrs. Britton. On third reading, I'm not certain, perhaps
even Deming and John might be sons of Catherine! If you know for
certain the relationship among these family members listed, why not
share it with the INVIGO-L list? --Jim]

Patterson, Chambers
"Then came the pretentious resident of David Linton, whose
family
consisted of two small boys, two small girls and in place of his wife,
a negro maid and man servant. He had married at Rockville in the
summer of 1832, Mary Patterson, the daughter of Gen. Arthur Patterson
and sister of Chambers Patterson, later a judge of the Vigo county
court."
Wright, Salomon (also Page 73, column 1)
"Salmon [sic]
Wright is given as having his wife, a small boy and two
males over 10. He died in 1857 and his wife a year later and on his
stone in Woodlawn the name is given as Solomon in error."
"Dutch people by Cooper's" (also Page 73, column 1)
"Joseph Cooper's family of seven is followed by 'Dutch people by
Cooper's' who also had seven in the family; but no man among them
which was the condition of the family of Mrs. Hanna next door, who had
four members."
