The Vigo Death Certificates are the only records I have received from any
county or state that are not photocopies of the originals.
Does anyone know if the way the Vigo County death certificates are done has
just changed over the years. The copies I have paid for over the past five
years are all typed on blue paper with a seal in the bottom left corner.
They say Vigo County Health Department Certificate of Death Registration at
the top and they have the Vigo book and page number on the back. I have
returned several of them to be corrected as the typed info did not match the
index or was a typo.
I have death certificates from my grandfather's files which were done in the
1970's and are photo copies of the original. They say Official Copy Vigo
County Health Department Certificate of Death. Each also has a seal and a
book and page number on the reverse side. With the exact photo copy there is
no chance of error.
It seems as if it would be much more timely to just copy the original as was
done in the 1970's. Does anyone know if the way things are being done has
changed and why? It is a lot of work to type out each of these certificates.
Is there a way to get a photocopy of the record?
Thanks,
