Anna, there's no Thornton in the Death Index either. Sure wish you luck.

Sharon,
He died in the 1934 - 1935 time frame. I've checked all over online and
nothing comes up. One day when I can get around a little better, I guess
I'm going to have to take a greyhound out there and stay for at least 3 days
to work on some research :). Luckily I've got 3 different lines I'm working
on in vigo county.

Anna,
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner; the library does have obits after
1966. I would email the library using the link in the obit index online.
Since you've checked online, I assume you saw Jennie's obit in, was it
1951?. They also have some cemetery transcriptions; most can be found
online. I checked the one book I have for Thornton and he wasn't in there.
Do you know when he died?
The two biggest city cemeteries, Woodlawn and Highland Lawn, are not
indexed; nor
is Roselawn. Highland Lawn is very helpful if you call them;
812-877-2531 or write at 4420 Wabash Ave., Terre Haute, Indiana 47803. I
believe someone may have an email address for someone there but I don't have
it. They have both Highland Lawn and Woodlawn in the computer, and I
believe, St. Josephs. Roselawn is
Roselawn Memorial Park, 7500 N. Clinton St, Terre Haute
812-466-5221
HTH,
Sharon

Sharon,
Thank you for the info. I"ve been busy going through some Jackson
county
census images. I did however, once I did a search at rootsweb on
Jennie
Cordell, find a reference to Thornton Lane. Has him listed as died in
Terre
Haute.
Now, my next question is, does the library have an index to vigo county
graves? I have no idea what cemetery to check for. I am waiting to
hear
from my step father to see if his mother (Thornton's second
wife) was
buried
next to Thornton. Then perhaps that will give me a clue to look
for.
In
the meantime, I'm checking here, just in case he can't help
me.
