I am searching for other descendants of Ralph R. and Ellen/ Elnor Snedeker Conover and
William and Catherine Warth Conover. My sister, cousins and I have gathered a tremendous
amount of documentation on these 2 families back to the 1830's when they came west
from New Jersey. We are now at a stand -still in our search for the correct set of
parents for the Conover men and need some input from others in the families. Ralph R.
Conover first appears in Vigo County in the 1840 census. The Vigo County death and
census records from his 2 oldest children , Aaron and Mary Jane Conover Merry , would
have them arriving in Harrison Township, Vigo County in 1839. He was a master brick
mason. Ralph R. owned a farm where the Coke plant sits and the University. Ralph R.
Conover was born in 1811 in Middlesex County, New Jersey and Ellen Snedeker about 1821 in
New Jersey. Ellen is living with her daughter Mary Jane Merry, widow of William Merry, at
the time of her death. Mary Ja!
ne is working as a paper hanger in 1910. All of their sons and sons-in -law are brick
masons at some point.
William Conover settled in Cincinnati , Hamilton County, Ohio from 1839-1856/57 and then
arrives in Terre Haute, Indiana. He is a plasterer and mason. His Vigo County death
record indicates the Conover family was in Cranbury , Middlesex County, New Jersey for his
birth in September, 1816. I am unable to trace him in New Jersey records. He first
appears in the 1840 Hamilton County,Ohio census. His wife, Anna Catherine Warth, was a
Swiss immigrant from Glarus.
Thank you. Marie
