The 1850 census for Nevans, Vigo Co. has George Montgomery age 40, with his new young
wife, Lucetta (McAllister) and a group of children by an earlier wife -- James, age 12,
Nancy 11, Thomas 8, Margaret 6, and Alex,5.
Most of these children moved to Iowa, including Alex. Alex's descendents have tried
to establish the name of Alex's mother. The Iowa state census of 1925 shows his
mother's name to be Margaret Morgan, but there is no record of a George Montgomery
having married such a person. The Indiana records have a George Montgomery marrying
Margaret Parcus in 1832 in Fountian County, and a George Montgomery marrying Catherine
Lussader in Fountain County in 1835. Some of Alex's descendants think the mother was
a Lussader.
The family lived at Fontanet and I understand the church and records there were destroyed
in a fire.
I suspect the mother was Catherine Lussader, but I have nothing but suspicion to go on.
Can any one help me on this one?
Oh, yes. Once in Iowa Alex met Adelaide Brack (Iowa-born), whose parents, George
Washington Brack and Nancy Ellen (Agnes) Hull, were from Vigo County. I've found a
good Hull genealogy, but the Bracks are a mystery too.
