Subject: [INVIGO] Hartwell Jordon (Jordan) and his kin
I am curious. Is Sandford in Vigo County close enough to Vermillion
County that some of the residents might have gotten married in
Vermillion County?
Hartwell married Amelia (Milla) Longdon August 4, 1833 in Vigo. They
are listed in the 1850 census as Jordon. I find a number of Jordons
getting married in Vermillion around this time and I am wondering if
they might be relatives.
Also, was the custom generally at that time to get married in the
bride's community?
A couple of Hartwell's sons, well actually, the only surviving ones,
married in Paris, IL in the 1860s. One Robert as a Jordan and the other
James Madison as Jordon.
We are still trying to find out what became of Amelia after Hartwell
died in 1873.
Thank you for your time and attention.
