State road 46 is in eastern Vigo County and intersects with I-70. It connects Terre Haute
and Riley and proceeds south and east across Indiana. State road 46 does not cross Sugar
Creek township. But, I think I may have the source of confusion. A. R. MARKLE's
newspaper column of August 14, 1932 says, "A half mile east of State Road #46 and
almost to the township line on the north, far back in the woods, is the old cemetery of
the Missionary Baptists wtih John SMITH (1898-1867) and Jorden BURNHAM, who died in
1837." MARKLE sandwiches this info between a mention of the St. Mary-of-the-Woods
Parish cemetery and Barnhart Cemetery. He says, "...still further east beside the
River Road and a mile north of the Big Four Railroad is the Barnhart Cemetery....".
By these descriptions, the Missionary Baptist Cemetery is in northeast Sugar Creek
township between St. Mary's and the River road. I'm not sure which road was
referred to as State road 46 in 1832. It could be Hwy 150. !
I will ask around!
