Write to the Vigo Co. Health Dept., Vital Statistics Office, 171 Oak St.
Terre Haute, IN 47807-2986
I think they have certain requirements as to who can obtain a birth
certificate and what ID they require. I think the cost is $3.00, but not
positive. Call them 8:00 a.m.-4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Monday-Friday,
at 812-462-3442
Presuming that your grandfather is deceased, which he may or may not be, but
if he is, his Death Certificate, wherever he died, usually lists his parents
if the survivor providing the info knew. Also, did he get married in Vigo
County? His marriage license record would list his parents' names. Many of
them are online at the Vigo County Public Library,
www.vigo.lib.in.us, go to
online databases, choose Marriage records, search and click on the linked
pdf file.
This is more than you asked for, but some of it may be pertinent.
