Small aside to Laura (Leura) Tichenor's given name:
These people are my 3rd Great Grandparents.
Laura, or Leura as is on her tombstone and as we know of her, had a
granddaughter named Leura Sparks (Leura on her tombstone and marriage
record) who is my Great Grandmother, and the name has continued down through
the generations as Leura to a recently born "cousin".

Subject: Re: [InVigo] Bettie Belle Tichenor Barcus
I have two members of a family which may be using a variant spelling.
I
have a Margaret Parcus, who married George Washington Montgomery in
Fountain County in 1833. She died in 1845, but had a number of
children. She had a sister, Elizabeth Parcus, who married Charles
Adkins about 1836. Both families settled in Fontanet, Vigo County.
More details if if is helpful. Just let me know.
Parcus is often rendered Parkis and Barcus, so this could be the same
family. I know nothing of them before the marriages. The name may be
related to Parkhouse.
Tichenor, incidentally, is an old NJ name, the family moving from the
New Haven Colony to Newark, NJ in 166-7. It includes the second
governor of Vermont.
