Hi Amy,
Post to the list who you are researching and the time frame. There are a
lot
of us researching Vigo Co. and we may be able to help.
Mary Margaret or David at the library are your best bets. They can direct
you to most everything.
I was just there and about the only thing you can't walk away with is
marriage and birth records. Stop by the clerks office and pick up request
forms. They gave me a six week waiting period.
You need quite a bit of information to get deeds. The library has maps
that
show were people owned land in the late 1800.
They also keep family files effort surnames if anyone has researched and
given them information.
There are several books that are quite informative. They also have a index
of names mention in books. On line is the obit list for the Terre Haute
Tribune. You can then go directly to the micro film for the date at the
library. It will save you a lot of time if you check it first. There is
also
a marriage list on line. You can submit your requests for Marriage
license's
directly from that.
They also have information for most of the cemetery's and who is buried
there.
Most important---post your surnames and time frame too the list!!!!
