Hello, Kathleen!
Did some census lookups today and found the following:
1870 Fed Census, Indiana, Vigo, Otter Creek
Marion Hamilton, 29, b. IN
Mary, 28, b. IN
Eliza, 10, b. IN
Charles, 5, b. IN
Alma, 1, b. IN
1880 Fed Census, Iowa, Wayne, E.D. 238
F. M. Hamilton, 40, b. IN
Eliza A., 20, b. IN
Charles E., 16, b. IN
Alma B., 11, b. IN
Edgar S., 9, b. IN
In the 1870 census no relationship is given for Eliza to the others,
but I'm wondering if she is Mary's sister and living with them. Then
by the next census Mary is gone and Eliza married Francis Marion.
That would mesh with the info you have as stated at the bottom, but
does NOT match with mine shown just below.

I have a Francis Milton Hamilton (1828-1900) with a wife Eliza A.,
but the source (Francis S. Brownlee self-published family history
1949/78) shows her birth 1830 and death of 1869. There were in that
general area of Indiana, and much of the family moved on to IA, but
uncertain of their particular movements. Do you have any other info
on Francis, such as parents, sibs, etc, for comparison?
Looking for SOUTHERN family info.:
Eliza A. SOUTHERN third wife of Francis M.HAMILTON
m.14 Aug 1876 Vigo Co. Family story says she was killed in a train wreck in
IA. One son Jesse b.1887 MO.
Mary E. SOUTHERN second wife of Francis M. HAMILTON
m. 8 June 1868 Parke Co. was perhaps a sister or cousin to Eliza ? Children
born of this union, Alma B. b. 1869 and Edgar S. b. 1871.
Thanks,
Kathleen
