Highland Lawn Cemetery office has records for Woodlawn, and the Vigo County
Public Library also has some books of Woodlawn cemetery records, I think
mostly the older burials, such records as survived. (812-232-1113, ask for
Special Collections, or
www.vigo.lib.in.us). My great-grandfather's sister
is buried there, and the last time I was there, a number of stones were
toppled over.
It is a lot bigger than it looks at first, so it really helps to know in
what section to look. In the case of my relative, almost all the writing
has worn off her stone, but she died in the 1870's.
I know less about Grandview, although I have visited a couple of graves
there, and sometimes have reached them by phone
(812) 232-7116. The city has changed the road access at the eastern end of
the road that goes to the cemetery. It is closed off at the railroad tracks
at 19th and Margaret. So you must turn at 13th and Lockport to go to the
cemetery, and come back the same way. If you have an old map, it would
appear to be open, but it is not. They have an emergency exit out on to
Margaret, but it is my understanding that it has to be unlocked, and is not
normally open.

Subject: [InVigo] Woodlawn Cemetery
I am looking for information on Woodlawn Cemetery in Terre Haute.
My
Grandfather Leslie Anderson was buried there in 1949. We may have a
chance
to go there in a few weeks and am wondering if it would yield any
fruit.
(It
would be about 3 hours out of our way) I am wondering if there could
be a
family plot with his parents. I know his wife Emma (Fritz) Anderson was
buried in Grandview and I don't think any of his children are buried
there.
Thank you for any information.
Nancy Hansen (nee Anderson)
