Ed and Nancy,
If you contact the cemetery office they can send you the records for all
persons buried on the plot. Many times a plot contained 6 to 8 graves with
families buying adjoining plots. . Below is the info from Vigo Co. Rootsweb
site that includes telephone numbers.
Woodlawn Cemetery
1230 N. 3rd St
Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana
812-232-8554
Directions: (submitted by Linn Zimmerman)
3rd Street (also known as US 41), runs north-south through Terre Haute. It
is one of the busiest streets in Terre Haute. Woodlawn Cemetery's entrance
is on 3rd street. An aluminum (iron production) fence surrounds the cemetery
on the Third Street side. All other sides of the cemetery are surrounded by
a chain link fence. There is a pedestrian gate on 8th Avenue (north side of
the cemetery) to access the cemetery. I believe there is another pedestrian
gate on the south side of the cemetery. However, the pedestrian gates may be
locked sometimes.
Calavary Cemetery (also in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana) houses the
records for St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, which is located inside Woodlawn
Cemetery. Calvary Cemetery provided me with a map of the burial sections for
St. Joseph Cemetery when I requested one in March 2002.
I believe Highland Lawn Cemetery, also in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana,
houses the rest of Woodlawn Cemetery's records. They also have a wonderful
brochure of valuable information regarding historic Woodlawn Cemetery. The
brochure includes the history of the cemetery, as well as grave plots and
information regarding well known people buried within Woodlawn Cemetery.
You may wish to contact the following cemeteries, if you are looking for a
certain grave in Woodlawn Cemetery, as I believe the records are housed in
various places.
Woodlawn Cemetery: 812-232-8554
Calvary Cemetery: 812-232-8404
Highland Lawn Cemetery: 812-877-2531

I am looking for information on Woodlawn Cemetery in Terre Haute. My
Grandfather Leslie Anderson was buried there in 1949. We may have a
chance
to go there in a few weeks and am wondering if it would yield any fruit.
(It
would be about 3 hours out of our way) I am wondering if there could be a
family plot with his parents. I know his wife Emma (Fritz) Anderson was
buried in Grandview and I don't think any of his children are buried
there.
Thank you for any information.
Nancy Hansen (nee Anderson)
