Letter from my great-grandfather to his grandchildren, May 24, 1927.
Mr. Wayne and David and Maxine,
I thought I would write you a few lines today as I have a little time. It is still
raining here yet. I got a good soaking yesterday evening. I went to the field to work and
went one round and the rain comemensed. I don't know when I will get to work any more
the ground is wet and looks like rain yet. I have all my brakeing done but have not got
any corn planted yet and can't tell when I will get any planted.
Well David old Red has got a big red bull calf so what do you think I had better do with
it. Keep it or sell it. I suppose it will be a big bull by the time you get to come back.
We are getting lots of milk now. I have been milking Red 3 times a day. Her milk will soon
be good. Grandma got her a new cream bucket to take the cream to market it. I picked some
strawberrys this morning for the first. We will will have some for dinner won't they
be fine.
Lawrence is at Riley in the mean shop. I don't know how he will make it yet. The
trade is lite but is picking up some. I think he will have to find some place wher he can
buy meat a little cheaper. There is a man from Evensvill that comes once every week that
is a little cheaper then Volentine. He has bought some from him. He has good stuff.
Say boyes, old Queen is getting to be a pretty dood rat dog. She has caught 2 big rats
this week. She found them under the chicking coop.
Mom said she would write right a way. She is aufel busy right now.
Well boys I will close for this time as I don't know anything else to write that
would interest you.
I hope you all will like your new home. Write soon and often as ever. Your Grand Dad,
E.B. Talley
