Good morning,
I have about 40 names of members of the Honey Creek Regular Baptist
church, which no longer exists, but was organized in the 1820's, and
existed for over a hundred years; it was evidently located near
Prairieton. I would love to locate the records of this church, or a photo
of the meeting house.
I have about the same number of names of members of the Turman's
Creek church, near Fairbanks, Sullivan Co., organized in 1821, and later
reconstituted in 1893. Have a few names for the church called Hartford
at Pimento, in Vigo Co. Would like to learn more, or find the records or
a photo of this church also.
Some of the prominent names in these churches include Thompson,
Drake, Trueblood, Lee, Rigney, Paddock, Staggs, Beauchamp, Pound, and
Johnson.
Have a great day,
Robert
My great uncle, John Harold (Harold John) Cowger was MIA in Korea. I'm at work now so I don't have all of the info as far as date of death, exactly where etc. His brother was contacted a few years ago about DNA testing but I don't know if anything was ever accomplished. All of uncle Harold's siblings are gone now, except one and he is in bad health in the hospital, at the age of 92. Is there any way I can find out about his remains, or progress, if any, of the DNA testing?

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.
Soldier: GILBERT LARRY HARMON
Born:Feb. 25, 1930, Caucasian
Date of loss: July 23, 1953, MIA
When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 70 families in Indiana that have not been located. There is one family from Vigo County that has not been located.
When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.
I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

I am looking for information on my Great Grandmother, Alice Cecelia Smith
who married William Burroughs Pinkston March 28, 1875 In Sullivan Co, IN.
According to information passed down by word of mouth, she was born in Vigo
Co, IN to Isaac P. Smith and Martha Ann Rogers but was orphaned when she was
very young. She eventually went to live with a family by the name of Poston
in Gill Township in Sullivan County where she met my great grandfather. I
have not been able to find her in any records prior to 1875.
The W.P.A. Indiana Marriage Index 1840 - 1920 lists the marriage of Isaac P.
Smith and Martha A. Rogers giving date as 5 May 1853.
I would like to correspond to anyone who has information on Isaac P and
Martha. If you don't wish to post it, you can e-mail me direct.
Thanks

Hoping to find descendants of Thomas Wetherell 1852-1931 & Amanda E. Moore 1860-1924 to share family history. Amanda was the sister of my Great-Grandmother. This couple married 1886 at Sullivan, Indiana but lived at Vigo County, Terre Haute, Indiana in the early 1900s. I'm aware of 4 children:
1.) Iona 1890 - believe never married.
2.) Elsie B. 1896 - married Charles Buell; children: William Robert 1919, Richard W. 1924, Jack 1927 & Earl Buell-abt. 1931.
3.) Mary F. 1899 - married Orville B. West; children Forest 1922 & Ralph West 1929.
4.) Thomas Addison 1905 - He died heroically in a WWII Naval battle, but earlier married Lena & had children Betty, Thomas & Barbara Wetherell.
Appreciate any help finding more about this family and especially descendants interested in their family history. - Thanks, Allan Griffith, Bloomington, IL - magrif(a)verizon.net

Seeking information about a Buell family at Vigo County, Indiana in the early 1900s. I'm specifically interested in a Charles BUELL 1896-1957, who married the sister of my Great-Grandmother. His wife was Elsie B. WETHERELL - She & Charles Buell (Jr.?) married 1915 at or near Terre Haute, IN. My studies indicate this Charles Buell was the son of Charles Buell (Sr?) & Minnie Kyle (or is that maiden name Kagle?). I know that Charles Jr. & Elsie had at least 4 children, but as yet I'm unable to find descendants to discuss family history on Charles wife's side.
The children I'm aware of:
William Robert Buell - b. abt. 1919
Richard W. Buell - b. abt. 1924
Jack Buell - b. abt. 1927
Earl Buell - b. abt. 1931
I have a wealth of information on Elsie Wetherells Mother's line, which also had surnames: Moore, Neal, Cowden, Shipman, McCammon, Miles & Trimble, mostly from Sullivan County, Indiana in the 1800s. Appreciate any help finding more about this family and most importantly locate descendants to share history. - Thanks, Allan Griffith, Bloomington, IL - magrif(a)verizon.net

Both John and Hanora are in fact buried in Sulphur Springs cemetery. I have photographed all of Sulphur Springs and have John and Hanora's stone photo. I'll post a picture of it to www.findagrave.com and post a link to the stones this evening. The top of the stone is gone but their names and death dates are on the base of the stone, however Johns side is partly buried. It reads:
John Mulvihill d. Aug. 25, 1902 Aged 80 years
Hanora Mulvihill d. Jan. 6 1899 Aged 64 years

I'm searching for information on John Mulvihill, my G-G-Grandfather. He was married to Honora Shehe. He came to Indiana from Canada in 1868 or 1869. He raised 10 children in Vigo Co., IN. Only 3 of these children were born in Indiana. He died between 1898-1902. I'm looking for any information on him or Honora. I'm also looking for Sulphur Springs Cemetery, where I believe they may be buried. John raised his children in Terre Haute, IN, and later bought some land just outside Terre Haute. My Great-Grandfather was Michael P. Mulvihill, born in 1871, in Rushville, IN. He was the first of John's children born in Indiana.

Coleen,
There is a
SCOTT, MATTHEW W age 37 born IN living in VERMILLION County, CLINTON TWP
in the 1860 census with a daughter Martha A. age 10
born IN. The wife Mary was also born IN. They are in dwelling
#897, household 904.
This more or less meets your criteria, but may not be the
family you seek. I urge you to research further. I didn't
look for every possible family, just those close around Vigo
CO. and I stopped looking at this first candidate.

Becky, I was born and raised in Vgo County. I was your mother' youngest cousin. There were thirteen of us, there are four of us alive. Barbara, my sister, lives in Terre Haute. I now live in Macomb, Il. You have had contact with two of my sons, James and Don, both better genealogist than me. Please answer. I knew Bill and Marge, as did my wife. They would come to Greensburg, IN, where we lived then. Bill would repair Shick electric razors.
