I haven't found them on a census for IN, but why would they marry on the 3rd of June 1882 then again on April 4, 1885, then to Mabel Firestone in 1893
Here are all of the mariage records I can find for now. MY husbands cousin said they were sisters, but I can't find them that way either.
Murry Phillips Father was James Phillips, Mother Martha.
Murry is 31 yrs old second marriage, is a Peddler in (should be a Puddler, it was an iron works) Terre Haute, White, and Born KY
Mabel Firestone age 20 B IL married at Marshall IL
Marriage1 Mabell FIRESTONE b: JUL 1877 in IL
Married: 24 OCT 1893 in Clark Co IL
List parents Geo. W. FIRESTONE, and Margaret
McCOMBS says McCom'e. W. Henry is the Clerk.
The witness was James M. Hill married by John A. Sweet MG
After this she moved to Clinton Co IN and married a SANDERS, he died and she lived by herself, with her children from then on.

Looking for information (birth, parents) about James M. SMITH.
James married Mary J. KERSEY in Vigo County on 9 Jan 1851; he died in Marion County, Iowa in 1855; their children were George Milton Smith and Sarah Smith.
I suspect that James lived in Nevins, Vigo County, during the 1850 census. This James Smith is shown as 35 and a widower with four children (Francis, Ephraim, Nancy, and Eliza). Would like to know any information on his previous wife and what happened to their children.
I suspect that James was a brother of George SMITH, who also married a KERSEY in Vigo County.
Any help greatly appreciated.

James and Mary appear to be in Clark County, IL, in 1870:
M593-195, Wabash Twp, Clark Cnty, Pg 462, Ln 22, 249/261
Grass, James 30 Farm Laborer b. IN
Mary 30 Keeps House b. IL
Martha 4 IL
Ellen 1 IL
I couldn't find a Mary Kinnick/Kennick in 1860 in any state that matches the one above. In 1880, Mary appears to be Maria and James has aged and she is younger:
1880, T9-181, Anderson Twp, Clark Cnty, IL, Pg 7b, Ln 16:
Grass, James 42 Farm Labor IN IN VA
Maria 37 Wife IN IN IN
Martha 14 IN IN IN
Ellen 12 IL IN IN
James 9 IL IN IN
Maggie 6 IL IN IN
William 4 IL IN IN
Elisabeth 3/12 (March) IL IN IN
In 1900, James W Grass is found back in Indiana:
T623-408, Harrison, Vigo, Pg 10a, Ln 10, 216/217:
Grass, James W Hd Apr 1842 58 IN IN VA
Susannah 2nd Wife June 1846 53 10 chil/6 liv KY KY KY
Isaacs, Grover? C SSon June 1885 14 IL KY KY
Fay A SDau July 1889 10 IL KY KY
Here, he apparently told the census taker this was his 2nd marriage (its clearly written on the image) but, according to the WPA marriage index, in addition to the 1867 marriage to Mary Kennick:
James W. Grass, son of Peter and Mary Tressmer/Tuessner/Trusler (each marriage the mother's name is spelled differently)
at age 51, md Eta Mattox Sept 1, 1898; Vigo 15,3
at age 57, md Armilda Johnson Dec 18, 1898; Vigo 15,82
at age 58, md Susannah Rogers Jan or Feb 26, 1900 Clay 10, 449.
Hope this helps,
Sharon

I don't find a James with a Mary I find a Adam with a Mary, I looked at all of the KINNICK listed for IN in the 1860 census, but found no Mary, and in this census for 1870 she is 47. so she would have been 37. If this is not the one you have, send me a roll #, and the page #, and I'll try and look it up that way.
